Drawing on a board
Every tool on a board, from sticky notes and shapes to arrows, frames, images and stickers, and how to style and arrange what you draw.
Select and move around
- Select (V) is the arrow. Click something to select it, drag a box around several things, or Shift + click to add one more.
- Move the board (H) is the hand. Drag to move around. You can also hold Space and drag, or scroll.
- Zoom with Ctrl and the mouse wheel, a pinch on a trackpad or touch screen, or the zoom buttons at the bottom left.
- Zoom to fit (Shift + 1, or the arrows at the bottom of the left toolbar) brings everything on the board into view.
Sticky notes
- Click Sticky note in the left toolbar.
- Pick a colour: yellow, pink, green, blue, purple or orange.
- The note lands in the middle of your view, selected. Double click it to type on it.
- Drag a corner to resize it, or drag the note to move it. Change its colour later with Background in its options.
Text
- Click Text (T), then click the board and type. Click away or press Esc to finish.
- Double click any shape, note or arrow to write in it. The text stays inside and moves with it.
- Enter starts a new line. Select the text to change its font, size, colour and alignment.
Shapes
- Click Shapes and lines, pick Rectangle, Diamond or Ellipse, then drag on the board. Keys: R, D and O.
- Hold Shift while dragging for a perfect square or circle.
- Double click a shape to write in it. Diamonds are good for decisions such as Replied?
Arrows and connectors
- Pick Arrow (A) and drag from one shape to another. The arrow attaches to both, and stays attached when you move either shape.
- Hold Ctrl while drawing for an arrow that does not attach.
- Select an arrow to choose its type (sharp, curved or elbow), its arrowheads and its line style. Double click it to add a label, such as Yes or No.
- Select a shape and press Ctrl + arrow key to add the next step already connected. Alt + arrow key moves between connected shapes.
- Ctrl + Enter on a selected arrow or line lets you move its points.
Lines and the pen
- Line (L) draws a straight line. Click to add bends, and click the first point again to close it into a shape.
- Pen (P) draws freehand, like a marker. Choose its colour and thickness in its options.
Frames
- Pick Frame (F) and drag around part of the board to make a titled section, such as Week 1 or Persona A.
- Anything you drop inside a frame belongs to it. Moving the frame moves everything in it.
- Double click the frame title to rename it. Frames are also handy for exporting one part of a board.
Images
- Paste an image (Ctrl + V), drop an image file on the board, or pick Image (9) under More tools.
- PNG, JPG, GIF, WebP and SVG images work, each up to 4 MB, and up to 200 on a board.
- Drag a corner to resize an image. Double click it to crop, then press Enter or Esc to finish.
Eraser, laser pointer, stickers and tables
- Eraser (E) removes whatever you drag it over. Undo brings it back.
- Laser pointer (K) draws a trail that fades away. Use it to point at things while you share your screen.
- Stickers and emoji (under More tools) add a large emoji, such as a thumbs up, a tick, a rocket or a target, to mark or vote on ideas.
- Table (under More tools) adds a grid of 3 columns and 4 rows. Double click a cell to type in it.
Styles: colours, fills, lines and fonts
- Select something and its options appear on the left of the board.
- Stroke sets the colour of lines and text. Background sets the fill colour of a shape or note.
- Fill chooses solid, hatched or cross-hatched. Stroke width and stroke style choose thin or bold, solid, dashed or dotted lines.
- Sloppiness makes lines neat or hand-drawn, and Edges makes corners sharp or round.
- For text: the font (hand-drawn, clean or code), the size, and left, centre or right alignment.
- Opacity makes something see-through.
- Copy a style with Ctrl + Alt + C and paste it onto other things with Ctrl + Alt + V.
Arrange: layers, alignment, groups and locking
- Layers: bring something forward or to the front, or send it backward or to the back, in its options or with Ctrl + ] and Ctrl + [.
- Alignment: select two or more things and use Align in the options to line up their edges or centres, or to space them evenly.
- Groups: select things and press Ctrl + G to move them as one. Ctrl + Shift + G ungroups. Ctrl + click selects one thing inside a group.
- Locking: press Ctrl + Shift + L, or use Lock in the options, so something cannot be moved or changed by mistake. Do the same to unlock it.
- Flip: Shift + H flips across, Shift + V flips up and down.
Copy, paste, duplicate and links
- Ctrl + C and Ctrl + V copy and paste, also between boards in the same browser.
- Ctrl + D duplicates the selection, or hold Alt and drag a copy away.
- Ctrl + K adds a link to a shape or note, for example to a campaign or a table in the app. Click the link icon on it to open it.
- Delete or Backspace removes the selection. Ctrl + Z undoes it.
